It seems every option has its pros & cons, so i'm curious what other people who have played it in numerous ways feel. Lastly there's indeed original hardware (I still have my OG xbox hooked up), though games can look a bit rough on my TV. So you either get rid of shadows or have them offset your entire playthrough. Then there's emulating through pcsx2, but it seems SH4 even in the newest dev version of that emulator is unable display shadows correctly. I think its a matter of personal preference - sometimes it adds to the game (Manhunt, anyone) sometimes it detracts (I dont actually readily recall any games. There's the option of the PC version but I heard it needs a lot of fixes (Since it was a rough port) and is also missing some scares (and potentially the last boss fight? that might've just been some forum rumor though). Mass Effect 1 deliberately styled itself like a 1980s B-movie (something its sequels conveniently forgot) and the film grain worked to great effect there, at least in the PC version. The game is relatively cheap compared to the others so getting a hold of a copy isn't an issue, but since I don't have a CRT playing on original hardware seems kind of odd (but not out of the question). Ok cool, Luckily the pc port of 3 is pretty decent. The other upside is you get access to four other silent hill games on one console (3, 4, origins and shattered memories). STATUS: Fonts. PCSX2 is a PlayStation 2 emulator, a free program that tries to replicate the PlayStation 2 to enable you to play PS2 games on your PC. Patched the hex edits and codes into the iso just scroll down a little. Stupid Silent Hill Origins and Shattered Memories Noise Removal patch. For PS2/Xbox original hardware, there may be choppiness going on here that I can't easily see due to the low, 480 resolution. If you are already primarily a PC gamer, use the enhanced edition. For PCSX2, I'm using OpenGL (Hardware) for the renderer, with 6x native resolution and 16x anisotropic filtering. 2 runs really well, 3 runs quite poorly unless you really fiddle around with all of your plugins. PCSX2: Some choppiness PS2 (original hardware): Smooth Xbox (original hardware): Smooth. However, I can't seem to find a "good" way to play it. While it was annoying at first, I learned to enjoy the extra layer of unease it added when entering a new area. Just search for the game on Google with 'pcxs2' after. ![]() If theres any issue with how the game runs, a fix usually will listed there. Quick tip regarding PCSX2: always check the wiki for the games you play. Silent Hill 2 was such a good game that it would take far, far more than reduced fog and the occasional freeze to ruin it.I've finished SH2 (Made a whole thread about that) and before I jump into SH3 I wanted to play 4 since it's basically its own thing. MyAbandonware is a good one, but Im pretty sure if you just Google 'silent hill 2 pc download' youll find it pretty easy. But most of the changes are so minor that they're non-issues, and I swear, if you hadn't played the originals, you'd have no idea. A lot of people refer to a popular review by a group called Twin Perfect, where they take the time to pick apart every single difference between the two versions (and I mean every single one- the review is two hours long!), and while they definitely are accurate in listing the changes, the review is extremely biased and they attach an unreasonable amount of weight onto every single change, as if the game is literally ruined because a particular sound effect is quieter in the remake than in the original. (2 at least has the hospital basement glitch fix available, and it is easier to play SH2 in 1080p with soft shadows using the PC version). ![]() With some exceptions, theyre not actually that special, ESPECIALLY 3 and 4. PCSX2 can do everything the PC versions can. :-) I enjoyed them, but seriously, if you ask about them on Reddit or a gaming forum or anywhere, all you'll get is hate. To everyone being unhelpful and just saying 'download the PC version'.
